Want to keep your teeth for the rest of your life? Brushing and flossing daily are not enough. You need to see your dentist in Central Pennsylvania for cleanings and dental checkups. It is recommended that you see the dentist at least twice a year, but the frequency of dental visits ultimately depends on your dental hygiene regimen and your risk of developing cavities and gum disease. Regular dental cleanings and checkups make sure that your mouth is in excellent health, and that there are no hidden dental problems.

Professional teeth cleaning keeps your teeth and gums healthy in-between appointments. Cleaning brings the number of bacteria in your mouth down to zero, something that brushing and flossing alone cannot accomplish. Teeth cleaning at Gentle Family Dentistry is performed by our friendly hygienist.
The hygienist will check your mouth for cavities and other problems and remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from all teeth surfaces. Next, the hygienist will polish your teeth with a gritty paste using a wand that has a rubber tip. Polishing keeps the enamel smooth and keeps bacteria from sticking to the surface.
Dr. Locker will take a final look and discuss any concerns you may have. Dr. Locker will tell you about potential problems and make treatment recommendations. You will also find out if your at-home care regimen is working or not.
Dental cleanings and exams are usually painless, but make sure to tell your dentist if your teeth are sensitive, you have a bad gag reflex, or if you have dental fear/anxiety. Topical anesthetic and sedation can be used to relieve any discomfort and help you relax during the procedure.
